My Prairie Life

I’m Denise and this is my husband Dean. We live on an acreage outside of Ste.Rose du Lac, Manitoba.

I’ve always lived in Manitoba and love it here! Even the winters when the temperatures get below -25 Celsius. Dean could easily go to some tropical paradise but I enjoy the snow and our outdoor activities (usually if I’m not too cold) 🙂 Summer is fun and a lot of work with yard work, flowers, gardening and canning. We’re trying to get out to canoe & fish – our latest favorite hobbies but don’t seem to have enough time in the day to get all this done. A favorite place we like to go any season is Riding Mountain National Park for great hikes or just to see some wildlife.

We’re in the process of leading a minimalist lifestyle and trying to save money by being thrifty. Dean’s having a hard time “letting go” of some of his many possessions! It’s almost a contest to see who can save money or get the best deal. Dean’s winning so far. He’s gotten lots of free stuff and good deals on items for our projects.

Our cabin/tiny house is our latest project. We’re trying to get it upgraded to what we’d like in a small home. We’re doing all the work on it ourselves and occasionally asking my dad for advice if we’re not sure what we’re doing. It’s been interesting and lots of fun getting our cabin fixed up. Hopefully we’ll find the perfect piece of land and move the cabin there and live off the grid. Living off the grid is something we’re very interested in and hope to accomplish that one day.
